What Does the Graston Technique Involve?
Most sessions involve a brief warm-up before treatment and mild exercise afterward. The treatment itself may only last minutes. During this time, Dr. Burleigh will move smooth, blunt instruments across your skin in gentle scraping motions. This helps them find and identify areas of soft-tissue damage. The instruments magnify differences in soft tissue, making them easier for Dr. Burleigh to find and eradicate. If your injury is old or involves larger areas of damage, you may need multiple sessions.
How Does This Therapy Work?
The Graston Technique uses cross-friction massage to re-introduce mild trauma to affected areas or old scar tissue. This, in return, promotes increased blood flow to the area, enabling faster healing. This technique can ease both acute and chronic pain for clients who could not find relief using other methods. This technique is non-invasive, never breaking the skin, and is comparable to deep-tissue massage where a therapist uses hands and fingertips to manipulate soft tissue.
